US Online Personality Penalized After Mass E-Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge
New South Wales authorities have levied a penalty against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation after a large group of electric bicycle users gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during the busy commute on a weekday.
The Incident: A Prohibited Ride
A gathering of approximately 40 people operating e-bikes and motorcycles proceeded along the primary roadway of the bridge, where cycling is prohibited. The riders then turned around and rode through the city’s CBD and Haymarket.
"There was potential for serious injury or fatalities," stated a senior police official the officer on the following day.
Police said they did not immediately pursue the riders due to concerns for public safety but rather found the assembly at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, at which point they broke up.
Penalties Issued for Content Creator
Later in the week, police announced they had issued the US social media influencer known as the influencer, twenty-six, with two violation tickets for careless operation (with no death or previous bodily harm), with a penalty of $562 and penalty points each, connected to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that the investigation is ongoing.
The personality reportedly has more than 3.4 million followers on one platform and over 1.2m on the social media app.
Influencer's Comments
The content creator gave comments to a major newspaper recently after the incident spread rapidly on news sites and social media, saying he regretted giving "bike life" a bad reputation.
"I accept the blame. It was one of the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he said. "I am a visitor here, so I’m going to come here respecting the laws and norms of the city. So when I decided to do a public meeting it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi near the bridge."
"I’m unfamiliar with the city, I am to blame we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, an illegal act. Or we reverse, essentially, before entering the bridge. I chose at the time to turn around."
Broader Context on E-Bike Regulation
The increase of electric bicycles on streets across the country has prompted growing calls for regulation. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."
"Kids have done reckless acts on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are absolutely devastating," he said. "We must make sure we stop these things entering the country [and] officers are given the powers to crack down, to take them away, to crush them, to destroy them."
NSW recorded over two hundred injuries related to ebikes in the previous year. But, in the initial half of 2025, that number jumped to 233 injuries plus four deaths.
