'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Missing Teens Await Answers After Alpine Fire
The loved ones of teenagers lost after a devastating blaze at a establishment in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an agonising wait for official news and pleading for information about their children publicly.
The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Confirmed images reveal the ceiling igniting as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which killed four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. Officials stated on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to name the final individuals.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been taking to the internet to plead for information about their friends who were present at the venue that evening.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of Lutry near the city, told a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.
She continued that some of his peers had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has said that six of its young people have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "talented young man who embodied passion and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the bar.
"A close friend informed me they escaped after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great responsibility. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the case.
